While updating the server and trying to move the database to the new server I have found that Wordpress links are no longer working and the error is (The requested URL /blog/contact/ was not found on this server.) I can write a post or a page but when I click on the blog links I got the same error.

After going thru a few attempts of restoring and dropping the table a few times and looking for Wordpress problems with links and finding no solution that worked I decide to check the server configuration files and found the problem.

It had nothing to do with Wordpress it was the server configuration directive was set to none, and the .htaccess files are completely ignored. In my case, the server will not even attempt to read .htaccess files in the user folders.

Found this web site with help on Restore your database guides with screenshots and easy to follow instructions (tamba2.org.uk).

Well survived the move to test server after a few hours of screw-ups, will have to go thru this one more time latter this week.

All the updates and database restoration has gone well hope it stays that way, now if spammers could just stop trying to spam us it would be great.
